The Most Important Woman Who Has Influenced My Life

May 17, 2009 - 5:48 pm 5 Comments

I was asked to give thanks at a recent family reunion and I couldn’t think of anything better to give thanks for than my Mom:

I think I speak for each and every person in this room.  We would like to give thanks to our mothers for all they have given us in life. I especially want to thank my Mother for teaching me to do what is right in life, to love each other as a family above all else.

My Mother, especially, has taught me not to let outside forces ever interfere with my family coming first.  As we have fought the many battle in our lives that we have, it was through the love and respect that our parents had for each other, and taught us to have for each other, that made an impact on my life.  Teaching us not only by their words, but their examples.

I only hope I can be as good of an example to my kids as my Mother has been to me.  I also hope that I can always live up to the expectations of my Mother, and to do what is right above all else, and put my family first.

We are all gathered here because of the love of our parents and their parents, and so forth.  We share a common bond that is only known in families who love and respect each other above all else.

Many of us here have lost our parents, children, sisters, and brothers and would give anything in the world to have even one more moment with them to tell them how much we love them.  I am one who is lucky enough to still have my Mother here.  I treasure every moment I can spend with her.

Time is something you can never get back, so in our busy lives we need to take time everyday to tell the ones we love how much they mean to us and to give them, as they have given to us, the gift of our time, because at the end of the day all that matters is our family.

Thank you all, and above all I want to thank my Mother, I love her more than life itself, she has given unselfishly, she has put her family above all else and if ever there were an angel on earth it is my Mother.

I love you Mom

30 Twitterisms Even Your Mom Should Know

March 29, 2009 - 10:29 pm 10 Comments

The Twittersphere has been created, and there is no stopping the phenomena.  Therefore we have a new lingo, new words, with new meaning, that only those who Tweet might understand.

If you Tweet, you know that you only have 140 characters, so the shortcuts you take to get your message across, are similar to those on text messaging.   But that is not all that has come from Twitter, we also have new words.  I searched the urbandictionary and found some very interesting, and Twitterific words that were born from Twitter.

1.  Tweeple -  People who use twitter.com.

2.  Twittizen -  A citizen of twitterspace, someone who resides in the cyberspace area of twitter.  Someone who twitters.

3.  Tweet -  A post on Twitter, a real-time social messaging system.

4.  Twitterism -  A word specific to the twitter.com universe. Usually formed by adding ‘tw’ to the beginning of any word. For example, a twitter meme is a tweme, and people on twitter are tweeple.
By gosh if we’re not twareful, everything will become a twitterism! You know what I twean?

5.  Speme -  A spam meme- that is, a new word someone creates to be tracked by a service Google or Tweme in order to draw attention.

6. Bacontwitter -  Twittering through the six degrees of separation to finally reach Kevin Bacon.

7.  Twitterverse -  The cyberspace area of twitter. This naturally extends beyond twitter.com to anywhere you can twitter, which includes cell phones.

8.  Twit -  Originally a twit was a person who annoys or “twits” others. Not unlike other tw words and rhymes with nitwit. Now comes “twitter” and twit takes on a whole new definition. It is still someone who annoys others or “twits” them. But now it is someone so infatuated with twitter and their tweets that when not twittering they are talking about twitter and tweets. A twit is someone who has lost the ability to communicate face to face. Someone lacking interpersonal skills.

9.  Twitterholic - A person who is addicted to twitter. They tend to tweet at least 20 times per day, follow at least 200 people, and attain at least 150 followers. Since twitterholics tend to do very little other than use twitter, Twitters intended purpose of quick messages about what you are doing is not enough to satisfy their need to tweet, therefore they carry out conversations, share links, and play games. Twitterholics are competitive about their stats, trying to post more than anybody else, or have more friends/followers than anybody else.

10.  Tweetup  - A group of friends on Twitter that are planning to meet up. A request by a user to meet with friends via Twitter.

11.  Tweeper - A person, or persons, who creep friends, or strangers, Twitter profile in order to gain perspective into the person’s life or just find someone to follow. If this is you then you are a Twitter-Creeper aka a Tweeper. To Creep, is to secrectly and discretely view other people’s profiles, blogs, etc without the person’s knowledge.

12.  Tweepetry - A poem of exactly 140 characters sent as a tweet. Soon to be popular.

13.  Tweepside - An opposite, reverse, or sharply contrasted side or aspect of something or someone on twitter: The Tweepside of their activities on Twitter is a desire for publicity and social media popularity. An alternate state of reality in twitter. Another word for “tomorrow on twitter”

14.  Tweet cred - Similar to street cred, this is the level of respect you command in the micro-blogosphere due to your witty, cool or ingenious tweets.  Example @garyveegots mad tweet cred!

15.  Tweet Diarrhea - Unstoppable continuous tweets…much like diarrhea. Low to no quality, immense quantity.

16.  Tweet Heap - An excessive amount of messages waiting for you when you log on to Twitter that you feel obligated to read.

17.  Tweet ping pong - When you read the twitter updates of someone and you see an outrageous directed tweet and you want to know what led up to that tweet(or update) of theirs — you must play ping pong between the 2 users to see who asked what and why it was answered that way.

18.  Tweet Syncing - The use of another person to post tweets to your Twitter account, pretending to be you.

19.  Tweetard - A Twitter whore.  Someone who is addicted to Twitter.

20.  Tweetarrea - When a person tweets excessively in a 24 hour period.

21.  Tweetdropping - To eavesdrop on twitter conversations, without making your own comments.

22.   Tweetesis - Something that a person cannot conquer, achieve, etc. on Twitter: The fact that no one follows me proved to be my tweetesis when trying to get my message out. An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome on Twitter. Especially someone who disagrees pointedly with a tweet.
HISTORY: Originally coined February 1, 2009 by @ADMAVENand @thedirtyblondeon Twitter to describe their interaction when arguing over humor in a Superbowl advertisement.
My tweetesis has been disagreeing with every tweet I make.

23.  Tweetho - That girl at work who sits on twitter all day not working while you slave away for the man.
Tweethoe - That guy at work who sits on twitter all day not working while you slave away for the man.

24.  Tweetover - Is like a sleepover, except instead of chilling with a buddy you tweet all night.

25.  Tweetwad - A name for a person who feels that the frequent posting of the mundane details of their daily life is warranted and/or justified.  “Look at that tweetwad wasting away his pointless life online.”

26.  Tweezer - A geezer that uses Twitter.  “John McCain is a total tweezer.”

27.  Tweevella - A short story told in successive tweets. Like a novella.

28.  Twiddict - A person who is addicted to Twitter.com, and has to update almost every couple of minutes or hour(s)…

29.  Twidiot - Someone that has no experience with Twitter at all. Clueless about Twitter.

30.  TWILF - Acronym, stands for “Tweep I’d like to follow.”

You just never know what language will be next!

I know one thing, I would rather be known as a “TWILF” as a “Tweezer” LOL.

Why Do You Twitter? Why Don’t You Twitter?

March 29, 2009 - 1:03 am No Comments

Twitter wants to know “What are you doing”?

Why is Twitter sweeping the world of news reporters, movie stars, marketing gurus, mom bloggers, artist, designers, bands, politicians, wine enthusiast, and everyone else in the world?

It is almost unexplainable.  For some it seems to be a waste of time, to others it consumes all of their time, It can be life changing, it can be a tool for self promotion, and it can be the newest alternative to a search engine.

Twitter can help companies, and businesses keep up with what the consumers are saying about them.  It is a way for an individual to have a say, because it is uncensored.  One tweet can be read by thousands of people and if a consumer has a bad experience with a company, what better way than telling world about it, to get the company to pay attention.  It is a lot better than waiting on the phone to talk to an operator to complain, and being transfered several times and on hold forever, to finally get fed up and hang up.  Let me give you an example, a friend of mine, Shawn Collins, was featured on an ABC news affilate, about his experience with ComCast. Watch the video!

Do you Twitter?  If you don’t you should give it a try.  If at first you don’t feel it is useful, don’t give up, I am going to tell you several ways twitter has helped me, changed my life, and connected me with some very interesting people.

Follow me on Twitter

10 Things I Hated About 2008

December 30, 2008 - 2:24 am 2 Comments

:-(
These are things that I hated about the year 2008. These are in no particular order or importance. I just hope 2009 is a better year.

1. That my sons and husband thought Sarah Palin was hot.

2. That the Election seemed to last forever.

3. The war

4. The economy

5. The bailout. Where is mine?

6. The cost of gas.

7. That people I love had medical problems.

8. That people I trusted betrayed my trust.

9. That I got another year older. (I want to be 29 forever)

10. That I didn’t win the lottery.
