U Drop Inn, Shamrock, Texas, Route 66

April 23, 2010 - 10:09 pm 2 Comments

This is the beginning of a series of paintings I intend to do for my new website, which is not up yet but will be as soon as I get some more paintings done.  The website is www.Route66Artist.com.

I wanted this picture to have a retro look about it, almost like a picture drawn in a comic book.  I may try to carry this style throughout the rest of my paintings in this series.

FYI, this is a building that is here in my hometown of Shamrock, Texas.  It is located on the crossroads of Route 66 and highway 83.  The building has been restored, and it has neon lights, and is beautiful at night.  It’s very unusual architecture has made it one of the most photographed buildings on Route 66.  It was featured in Disney’s Pixar Movie, “Cars”, as Ramone’s body shop.

Wish me Luck,

New Painting, Birthday Gift for my Husband

April 5, 2010 - 9:41 am 2 Comments

I am continuing my journey in my artwork, and I couldn’t think of a better gift for my Husband, than something to hang in his office.  My Husband, Mark, works for Cimarex Energy, and he loves his job, so I hope that this will really mean something to him.

Love you Mark, Happy Birthday!

Self Portrait

Self Portrait:

in my last few posts, I talked about starting to create again.  I painted a picture of myself that I hope portrays what I am experiencing in my life at this time.  I have had a troubled situation in my life, which makes me very sad.

This is the process in my self portrait:

This process was very therapeutic to me, instead of writing my thoughts in a journal, I have put my feelings in my painting of myself.

I am going to keep painting, and I will “Proceed and be Bold

How to get your groove back, just do it.

November 19, 2009 - 11:45 pm 5 Comments

For the longest time I have been trying to get my groove back.

I wanted to do something I was passionate about, something that I do that makes me feel good.  I know what it is and I just needed to start.  I kept procrastinating, finding something else to do, watch TV, play solitaire, anything to keep me from starting something, I hope I still got it in me.

Today was the day of just going for it, I started PAINTING today.  I am duplicating a painting I did in college, many people told me they loved it, the original is very small and on a kind of canvas paper.

The object I am drawing is a bit challenging, It is a drink being poured into a glass with ice in it.  This can be a little difficult with the lights and the shadows, and making it actually look real.

Now I am going to show you what I have reproduced so far.  It will look a lot better after I get it finished.

I should video my painting process, and share parts of it with you.  Well wish me luck in getting my groove back!
